Sarah Good at Wantok Radio Light confirmed my reception of the station in January with a colourful QSL-card, a leaflet and a letter. Wantok Radio Light is a Christian radio stations with Christian music and teaching. The station is operated by the wellknown HCJB World Radio Missionary Fellowship. Sarah tells that their station is located in a shipping container on the outskirts of Port Moresby and that the shortwave transmitter is capable of 1 kilowatt. Bearing in mind their very limited power, it is quite impressive that they can be heard relatively well even in Europe in the crowded 41 metre shortwave band.
In addition to shortwave, Wantok Radio Light also broadcasts on 105.9 FM in Port Moresby as well as through 9 satellite fed “satellators” located in 9 cities throughout Papua New Guinea. At the moment, their programming is simulcast on FM and shortwve but they hope to split the signals soon.
